Recall of Specialized Tarmac SL7 bikes

Recall of Specialized Tarmac SL7 bikes

 Dear Specialized cyclist,

despite of low number of warranty claims, we announce at our own accord a recall of Specialized Tarmac SL7a bikes and frame sets in order to replace some of the headset bearing components, thus reinforcing the whole system.

AFFECTED PRODUCT: All Tarmac SL7 bikes and frame sets which were sold and delivered before this announcement was published (July 2020 – August 2021). The sign “Tarmac” is on the rear side of the seatpost. Models SL7 differ from older Tarmac models by integrated (hidden) installations running through the headset components (picture above). For more information visit www.specialized.com/safety-notices.

RECALL REASON: Heavy frontal impacts, for example from potholes, can put extreme load to the headset bearing components thus creating cracks in the frame head tube and causing a fork to break at next bike ride, resulting in a fall and injuries.

WHAT TO DO IF I OWN RELATED BIKE: Immediately stop using your bike and bring it to the nearest authorised Specialized retailer. The retailer will replace the existing headset spacer with a new extended one, and upgrade the compression ring with a new double compression ring if your bike is not already equipped with it. All this will improve the functioning of the whole system and reinforce its resistance to the frontal impacts so that you can ride your Tarmac SL7 bike safely.
